How to use your extra gas savings

Gasoline prices have dipped to their lowest levels since 2009. For most of us, this is a welcome relief at the pump, and in our budgets. But how can we use these low prices to our advantage? We have three tips for you for how to use your extra savings at the pump to help your budget, and keep your car running smooth.

  1. Don’t get greedy: Low gas prices make everyone eager for the days of the big gas guzzler, and while the prices might be low now they wouldn’t always be. Don’t sacrifice fuel economy on a new vehicle just because gas is cheap now. Buy a car with good fuel economy to save now, and down the road.
  2. Funnel your savings back into your budget: It can be easy when we save a little money to think, ‘well now we can spend a little more.’ Instead of giving yourself more leeway with your budget, keep your gas budget the same, and put that extra money into savings or to pay off debt. Make your money work for you!
  3. Fix your car up: If money has been tight enough that you’ve been avoiding extra work on your car, and only doing routine maintenance make it a priority now. Invest in your car ownership, and show your car a little tlc. Take care of problem areas before they become a big issue, and get your car performing for you the way you want it to.

Low gas prices can mean a lot of things. For some they are good, and for others they are bad. We choose to also look at the bright side of things at American Title Loan, and want you to take advantage of every break you can. So try our tips for ways to save and use your extra savings to your advantage!
